Available again are our well-known ‘red’ sump guards. These are favoured by knowledgeable enthusiasts because being made of mild steel they are designed to bend under impact—which is essential otherwise even the slightest accident will damage or even rip out cross member. The vast majority of after-market sump guards, especially those of mass produced European origin, are made of heavy-duty steel under the misconception that ‘heavy’ guarantees protection! As many racers, rallyists and fast road users have found out these ‘heavy duty’ sump guards do not fold under impact---there is no ‘absorber effect’ to protect the anti-roll bar mountings and cross member.
Admittedly a good many Alfa owners buy our ‘red’ sump guards to add a certain cosmetic value to their Giulia because they look purposeful. But there is a further reason---they offer the sump (and engine) protection from the current scourge of speed bumps.
But heed the advice of our 36 years in business and choose our mild steel version, which is designed to bend under impact.
