Old style gearbox mounts.

A Monthly news update from David Edgington who has been selling Alfa Romeo spares for over 40 years).

Gearbox rear mounting bushes used on the 101 Giulia Sprint/Spider from 1962 carried part number 101.12.13.080.00 and were secured with a central fixing bolt. This same bush was used on the first of the 105 series Giulias with a column change gearbox but was found to be too harsh in operation for the floor change gearbox cars that followed.

With the floor change gearboxes came 10508.13.091.01 bush with slightly less rubber and a little more movement. In an effort to achieve a 'softer' drive train the bush was further modified when the 1750 arrived with its hydraulic clutch. The new bush, part number 10541.13.080.00, had even less rubber, an off-set centre bolt fixing, and considerably more movement. (Alfa Direzione Assistenza information sheet 1.05.088/2 dated 2/2/67 describes the reasons for the introduction of this bush).

The 10541.13.080.00 bush has always been regarded as too soft for most Alfa enthusiasts who prefer a tauter ride.

As well as supplying 10541.13.080.00 we are now able to offer again the old style 10508.13.091.01 bushes. We can also supply aluminium stiffening plugs as used by Alfa Romeo and Autodelta in the 1960s. These plugs push into the two purpose-made recesses (see picture) in the bush (as per Alfa Direzione Assistenza information sheet 1.05.032/1)

Also for 10541.13.080.00 we can suypply inserts made of polyurethane for fast road and race type conditions.

These inserts fit into the original mount and remove any excessive movement in the oriignal mount.
